Edible Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (Egg Free!)

Edible cookie dough is kind of taking the world by storm. With eye-catching images of cookie dough plastered all over social media platforms like Instagram, and edible cookie dough shops opening up in places like New York City, its popularity is increasing more and more. The visual aspect is definitely there, as the edible cookie dough looks great in pictures, piled with sprinkles, stacked into colorful waffle and sugar cones, or just by itself in a bowl!

But what’s more is that the edible cookie dough tastes delicious! It’s better for you too.

Whenever I make cookies, I eat more dough than I care to admit. Honestly, I probably eat more cookie dough than the actual baked cookies that come from the dough! But that isn’t very healthy for you. For one thing, in normal cookie dough, the recipes call for eggs. It’s not healthy (or smart) to eat unbaked foods that have egg in them, as it is a known fact that a small percentage of eggs carry salmonella. Why take that risk?

A small percentage of eggs carry salmonella. So it’s not smart to eat a lot uncooked cookie dough. Why take that risk? This recipe of edible cookie dough is egg free.


HOWEVER,

The edible cookie dough sold in chain stores or in shops that specialize in producing it are extremely expensive. In a supermarket near me, the price for a 4-ounce jar of edible cookie dough was 9 dollars! 


Now for a Cheaper (and Delicious) Alternative . . .

Edible Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Recipe

Makes 5-6 Scoops

You’ll Need:

  • 1 Stick of Butter (softened)

  • 3-4 Pinches of Salt (About 1/2 a Teaspoon)

  • About 1/2 cup White Granulated Sugar

  • About 1/2 cup Brown Sugar

  • 1/8 cup of Applesauce (This Would be Your egg Substitution)

  • 1 cup of Flour

  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Syrup (or Vanilla Extract)

  • 3/4 cup of Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

You’ll need a bowl, measuring cup, container (if you have any dough leftover) and a spatula too.


Directions –

  1. Soften your butter, and add it to your bowl. It should not be completely melted.
  2. Add the salt, sugar, applesauce, flour, and vanilla syrup/extract. 
  3. Mix with your spatula. You may need to mix the dough with your hands to have all the clumps come together.
  4. After the dough forms, add the chocolate chips. Mix.
  5. Eat all of it! (Haha, just kidding. Eat what you want, and then store the rest in a container with a lid.)
